Meeting called to order at 5:15 p.m. by Commissioner Richardson.

Minutes: Members quickly viewed and approved the Director

        -December in-take total
        -Black History Month (February) essay contest: review/judging started…SS. Peter & Paul and Casey Park Elementary Schools are participating in the contest…there are enough essays for publication and a small display in the lobby.

Board Member Comments: K. Brandstetter volunteered to help review essays. V. Bauhofer may be available also. HR Director and RSVP staffer will begin reviews on Thursday, 1/4/2001.

        -Press Release: holiday culture information compiled and mailed to area media. Information highlighted various holiday celebrations happening around the Christmas season (Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Ramadon, Chinese New Year, etc.)

Board Member Comments: Members saw the release published in the Citizen.

        -City Hall lobby display features the usual human rights information with additional information pertaining to various cultures and their traditions…hoping to draw a common ground between the groups.

        -Completed half-day MUNIS payroll computer training…one employee in every department must in-put payroll data for their department.

Board Member Comments: Karen completed the training. MUNIS is also used for all purchase requisitions.

        -Attended Unity House event
        -Attended United Way event.
        -Compiled press release for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
        -Used vacation time dates 12//19-12/21 and 12/26/2000.
        -Holiday food Pantry Drive through the Human Rights office completed. Major donations arrive during the Christmas season and donated to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry and deemed a successful effort.

        -Motion to accept Director
        -Motion to adjourn at 5:30 p.m. Brandstetter/Mack

        -Following the short meeting, Karen Sheftic-Burns, Executive Director and Fred Richardson, Commissioner of Human Rights presented Emily Baier with an appreciation plaque. The presentation honored and thanked Mrs. Baier for her help and dedication to the Human Rights Office through times of calm  and tension. She has been volunteering through the RSVP Program and helping the HR Office for 4 years.



THE NEXT HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION BOARD MEETING WILL BE  WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH AT 5:00 P.M.
